Thanksgiving at School

Better late than never. . .

Can I just say that I don’t know what our teachers did to fill the time without feasts and movies and wearing pajamas to school.  We were part of four Thanksgiving feasts for THREE children over seven days. . . and that was BEFORE our family Thanksgiving feast.  Goodness.

Bubba’s feast followed his class’s presentation of “No Turkey for Perky”
There was singing, speaking in unison, and dancing.  Bubba was a rock star – he never missed a beat/word.
Each child had an individual line as well and while they recited it a picture they colored depicting what they were saying was shown over them on a screen.  Bubba’s line had the little girls whining about how she wasn’t thankful for turkey because she didn’t like turkey. While practicing at home (in his monotone voice), Bub’s would tell me, “I have to say this with more emotion.”
Turns out the main character in the story had pizza for Thanksgiving and so her little dog, Perky, didn’t get to have any turkey scraps.  On the other hand, we had enough food for everyone attending and any dogs who might have wondered by.  It was QUITE a spread.

My own “perky turkey”.

Toniiiiight, Toniiiight. . .

Tonight we wore our new Christmas jammies and snuggled up to watch The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (Dr. Suess’ animated version).

There were bean bags, quilts, and matching jammies (did I say that already?) . . . I felt close to heaven it was so sweet.

Comments:
Bubba: It was very short.

KB: I didn’t like it but it had a happy ending and the Grinch had a cute dog and zoomed down to, what’s it called again? Oh. Whoville. And there is another show with Whoville and that’s called Horton Hears a Who and we know that one.

Little: Let’s watch that one (speaking of a special feature on animation).

Obviously they were not feeling the tender moment enough to know to leave it alone.  Still, it was a wonderful 28 minutes and I am thankful.

Stuff Said and Done

1.  First I have to say that I forgot what Bebo Norman looks like.  Okay? Innocent mistake – I don’t see him that often.  His face pops up on our Pandora Christmas channel but that’s just not enough to hammer home his appearance.  So, yesterday in the van when KB stopped in the middle of Bebo’s Come and Worship to ask me what he looked like I made something up.  I said, “He looks like Pastor Mark but much shorter.”  KB replied, “You mean he doesn’t have any hair?”

2.  Our “Christmas in the Car” cd has quite a variety.  Veggietales, Bebo Norman, the Chipmunks, Sixpence None the Richer, and more.  Bubba has been singing the twelve days of Christmas along with Alvin, Simon, and Theodore; it’s adorable.  His version:

“On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love said to me: 12 drummers drumming, 11 pipers piping, 10 lords are leaving, 9 ladies dancing, 8 mates are milking, 7 swans are swimming, 6 pieces of lane, 5 gold and rings, four calming birds, 3 friends’ chins, 2 turtle doves, and a partridge in  a pear tree!!!!!”

3.  There is nothing quite as beautiful as hearing Little sing all twelve verses of The Twelve Days of Christmas completely off-key.  The song itself = annoying.  Singing off-key = annoying.  Little + song + tone-deaf = AWESOME.

4.  I picked up KB from Toddler Time yesterday and the first thing she showed me was a shepherd made from a dum dum who was holding a staff made from a candy cane.  It really was cute (and I am sure a dentist came up with the idea).  She looked up at me and said, “Mom, can we go spread the good news?” I asked, “What’s the good news? She replied, “Jesus Christ is born!”  Amen and Amen!
