Aunt Anna came to Visit

My sister came into town this week to help out. Honey was supposed to be in Orlando on business but with all that happened with KB he decided to stay here. So, the trip looked different than we planned but it was still SOOOO good to have her here. The biggest help was having hands at breakfast and the two times she drove the van and let me run into stores to get errands done. What would have taken me hours with three kids took 20 min. What a blessing.
KB is good and spoiled now and we will spend the next week trying to help her re-learn what falling asleep in a bed means!

I had to take Thomas to the doctor and Aunt Anna and Little did a painting project. Christmas wrapping paper in the making. I came home to a Green Little and my sister was pretty covered too! Still, they seemed to have a ball.

My friend Erika said I needed more photos of KB’s face. Yes, this has her name on it but I just had to post it. My dear friend Mo sent this to KB – it is sooooo soft and pretty. The outfit is from Memom and is one of few that fit her LITTLE body. (Comparatively little, that is. She just broke 9 pounds but her siblings were all born over 9.5)

Lastly, can I tell you what God did? There is a movie coming out this week called August Rush. Anna and I had talked about how we both want to see it and even said it was too bad this trip missed the release date by just a few days. Friday I got an email offering me two free tickets to an early screening of the movie last night. So, Honey watched the kids and we went to see August Rush. What a treat. Such a personal God we serve who loves us enough to give the little things.

Happy Anniversary?

Well, our life is never without drama.

First you need to know that our pediatrician is great. We had a rocky start with Lily but now have a mutual respect and I feel really cared for by the practice. One of the things I like about Esse Health is that they give handouts when you leave the office. Each is different – the last visit I went to found me carrying home a handout on 2 month vaccinations (what are they, arguments for pros/cons, etc.) and a sheet on KB that told her stats, dosages for any medications, and hints for helping her over the next two months (no honey in her bottle!, if she has a fever over 100 call in, don’t smoke). The doctor briefly reads through these hints/instructions at the end of the visit and asks if there are questions. Since KB has been with us, I have heard Dr. Dave read the fever instructions at least four times – each was a brisk recitation with an air of “that’s not going to happen.” Monday night – two hours before our 7Th anniversary dinner date – KB’s fever hit 100.8!

So, I did what I tell my own children to do – I obeyed. . . first time. I called the doctor and his response was, “That is really high for a baby her age.” So it was off to the emergency room! Seriously! A baby that little has such limited immunities that a bacteria could kill them within a day, so we had xrays, urine tests, blood tests, and a spinal tap! Then we were checked into the pediatric wing for what we were told would be a 48 hour stay! Seriously! Thankfully the sitters who were coming for our dinner came on and Jeremy was able to come to the hospital too. Thankfully, he got there right AFTER all the tests.

We are home now. 12 hours earlier than they predicted. KB’s fever started to come down that night as she was given antibiotics and fluids. She looks great and sounds great except for the congestion/runny nose. She has a double ear infection and that is no fun but she is handling it like a trooper. All cultures have come back negative for bacteria and we are grateful.

So, I would like to reiterate that our pediatrician is great. I am so thankful for his carefullness. Thing is, he is not quick to run lots of tests so I knew that if he ordered these, they were necessary. Praise God for protecting our little girl.

My sister arrives today and the first order of business is a nap for me 🙂 But since our life never looks quite like we thought it would, we’ll see how that goes.

Nov. 11, 2007

Today I am so emotional. No need to write in with postpardum advice. No need for over concern. I am two and a half weeks out from giving birth, today my little girl “sang” in church, today is my seventh anniversary, and today Jesus took my grandma home to be with him.

My grandma was one of the godliest women you could know. She was that kind of godly that people write books about – in my opinion. She came to my wedding seven years ago and that was the last time I saw her. Not too long after that she started “failing” and has been suffering from Altzheimers for some time. She didn’t know who any of us were, etc. You would think that with her being “gone” for so long already that this day would not be so sad. When my mom called to tell me she had died, my first and only response was, “Thank you Jesus.” But in the moments that followed I was overcome by just how sad I am. Honey says it’s the finality of it all. I guess that’s right. But whatever the explanation, I am so thankful she is in heaven with our Savior – she loved Him so, and so sad that she is gone – I loved her so.

So, seven years with my honey! I must admit that I didn’t do a thing to honor the day – ahead of time. I did go out today and get him a 42 oz. sweet tea at McDonalds. But you know what my man did? I do think this is the first time in our married life, and on THIS anniversary he has lined up sitters for us to go out to dinner. For the seventh year in a row, my faithful and kind father-in-law has given us a nice dinner on him and I must admit I didn’t know when we would ever use it. Honey planned it without telling me and we are going tomorrow night. I love that man!

Little “sang” in church this morning. I use quotes because she didn’t sing one word, really, but she word the robe, stood where she was told, did several of the hand motions, and announced at the end that they were done. Oh, and she did yell, “Good morning, mommy” as she entered the sanctuary and saw me. I cried watching her up there (see previous emotional comments, i.e. two weeks out from giving birth) just thinking that once we didn’t know what she would do and now, there she was . . . not singing in front of our church. God is so good.
Two and a half weeks from giving birth and my little KB slept two four hour stints last night. The rest was wonderful – thank you, Jesus.

Now, I am going to take a nap. Emotions are draining, eh?
