Birthday Banner

I have these birthday blocks that I pull out every birthday to help make the day a bit more special. When the birthday person wakes up the blocks are just there. Magic. Well, ever since my mom helped me organize last October, I can’t find the birthday blocks. Drat. They are somewhere and we’ll find them before August!

So, I keep seeing precious banners on crafty blogs and thinking, “I could make something like that.” I thought Little’s birthday would be a great opportunity. I downloaded some free digital scrapbook designs that just happened to match my kitchen perfectly and created this little baby.

Sure wish I could remember the gal’s blog that inspired this baby, but I am just now getting acquainted with Delicious, hadn’t marked the post, and therefore I cannot give any linky love. But isn’t it cute??

I am sure you are asking, “Where does one find free downloadable scrapbook paper and embellishments?” Let me introduce you to DigiFree – The Digital Scrapbooking Freebie Search Engine. They describe themselves this way, “The program works by going through a list of thousands of blogs that it has found and it scans those blogs to identify (1) if they have been updated since the system last looked and (2) if they contain any digital scrapbooking freebies. If both of these are true, then the system lists it here.” FUN FUN!!

Now, for those asking WHEN I found the time, let’s just say the folks at Wal*Mart think I am a freak because I am ALWAYS doing something in the lounge while I am on break or lunch. So, I took my corner rounder and punched the pages, I cut during Lost one week, etc.

Little loved it and Bubba sings happy birthday to me every time he comes in the kitchen.

Little Turns 5 – the Birthday Post

Little’s birthday (and party) was Friday and, as God would have it, Bubba awoke Thursday morning in a bed of sickness (literally). He was dead weight until 10:30 AM and was still a mess into the afternoon. It was just enough that we postponed Little’s party until this Friday and hoped it would be one of those things her “special brain” considered no big deal.

Hindsight is 20/20 isn’t it? We had Little’s kindergarten screening on Friday morning and God knew I wouldn’t be able to pull it together for a party that afternoon. (I’ll post about the screening another time) The celebration as a family was just enough – cramming a party in there would have been too much. We got to have a lovely afternoon and evening and will get to enjoy the party this week too. God is good. All the time.

So, we had a strudel from Straubs for breakfast and Little was thrilled. She wore her birthday shirt to her screening and announced that it was, indeed, her birthday shirt to everyone there. (If you are new to the Blue Hutch, you can read more about our birthday shirts here.) We had Chick-fil-a for dinner and played on the playground in the mall and then returned home for cake and presents. Photos following:

See this cheesy grin? Talk about developmentally delayed! Most kids start doing a cheesy grin when you say “smile” when they are three or so. Not our Little. She just started. Now. Age Five. Great.
Here’s this year’s shirt. The purses are in honor of the dress-up party that wasn’t.
Our yearly picture with Mr. Frog. Just love these.
The cake actually matches the purse on Little’s shirt that is the furthest to your left. I am sure it will end up on the Cake Wrecks blog, but Little said it was her favorite part of her day. That’s all I need to know.
She giggled the whole time we sang and even, to my delight, gave us a, “What are you singin’ to me?”
When I told her there would be presents, Little said, “And I’ll rip them.” There you go.
It was a good day. We are looking forward to this Friday when “my friends come over for my tea party.” Pray it goes well – and that folks are well. KB threw up last night and just had the grossest diaper I have seen in all my years of mommying and babysitting. Heaven help me.

The Cricut Explained

How is it that I have some of THE craftiest (and I don’t mean that in the deceptive way) friends and you have not heard of the Cricut. Your infants must not have been sick on a Sunday morning and you must not have watched the hour long amazing infomercial that WILL compel you to pick up your phone just to hear more.

As per the website:
“The Cricut Personal Electronic Cutter machine is the future of home crafting. Simply by touching a button, Cricut can cut beautiful designs and alphabets for card making, scrapbooking, and paper crafting. No computer is required, just plug it in. Place your favorite cartridge in your Cricut and choose from hundreds of designs in 12 different sizes; ranging from 1″ to 5-1/2″! That’s thousands of possibilities! Cutting customized shapes and alphabets has never been easier. The Cricut machine weighs only 7 lbs and comes with the George & Basic Shapes cartridge, to get you started.”

Now, I got this size – the smaller size – but it comes in a bigger size that will cut images up to 11″. I can see no time in my life I will need an image that big though 🙂

Isn’t it FUN????
