“The Voice in my Head”

During my parents’ visit there were a couple of issues that came up.  Little had an accident at the pet store and while there was a pull-up for her, there was no clean pair of shorts for her to wear.  The solution was obvious but I had just never taken the time to put a bag with a change of clothes into the back of the van.

Bag with change of clothes IN the back of the van within 24 hours of Mom’s departure.

Another issue was the fact that I apparently never have my phone near me when it rings.  Now that we have no land line it is a problem.  It was suggested that I carry the phone in my pocket.  I hate the thought of carrying the phone in my pocket, but it would increase the likelihood that I won’t miss any calls.

Phone in my pocket THE DAY Mom and Dad drove away.

There is a line in the Sandra Bullock/Hugh Grant film, “Two Weeks Notice” that goes something like this, “for better or worse, she’s the voice in my head pushing me to do better.” I AM better.

Last week on vacation KB had an accident and there was a change of clothes in the car!! Also, I have been trying to reach Little’s case worker for over a month and he kept missing my calls and I kept missing his . . . until I put the phone in my pocket.  Sigh.

Each One Reach One (or more)

Would you rather have a million dollars or a penny doubled every day for thirty days? Our first response might be to grab the million dollars, but let’s take a closer look at the penny option…

(Jonathan Wells)

What am I saying? If each of my friends votes for Promise each day  it would be great! If each of my friends were to ask their friends to vote, who asked their friends to vote, etc. it would be INCREDIBLE.

With your support, we have moved back into 2nd place! BUT…we can’t stop, we have 7 more days!! Continue to vote! Continue to spread the word! Continue to send email reminders! Continue to post on Facebook! Continue to do…for the children of Promise!!

1 minute each day, for the next 7 days, could change the lives of students with special needs!

Memom, Pop, and Play Dates

As I mentioned, the parents wanted to take each child out for an individual “playdate” while they visited.  KB, my creative wizard, was up first and Memom took her to the Craft Caboose.  It was the perfect place for her with pretend play and a space for her to do arts and crafts where someone ELSE would clean up!

A natural cropper!

When asked what she wanted to make, KB picked out a plane for Bubba and a wand for Little. Such a sweet kid.

Then she loaded all the animals on the ark. . . I mean pirate ship. WHAT???

Bubba was up next and he had asked if he could go to the Monster Truck store with Pop to replace the monster truck that KB had broken.  His grandparents were happy to oblige.  First they took him to Steak and Shake for lunch and then it was off to see the Monster Truck! (this year’s photo beside 2010’s photo)

Little brought up the rear with a trip to Krispy Kreme for doughnuts and then to Pet Smart to see/pet the animals.Little is convinced she wants a pet and prays that the Lord will give us our own house where we can have a dog.  Meanwhile, she talks about having a hamster since she believes Mr. Meyer (the landlord) would allow it.  Then our friend Dave gets her thinking about a cat which will NEVER happen (Honey has allergies).

We went to dinner too. . . Pappy’s Smokehouse; no photos from there.  I am so thankful for the time to talk together.  We ended up going home and sitting around the kitchen table and talking a lot more.  I am so blessed that my folks make the trip up together every year.  I look forward to it for 11 months and my favorite thing to do with my folks is sit together and talk serious.  It wasn’t until we did this that I felt it really was a good trip.   We needed our “play date” with them too!

Note to self: schedule sitter for BEGINNING of visit next time.
