We are going through a very high energy phase here at the Blue Hutch. We are trucking along through a day and then *BAM* the volume goes up, the sillies take control, and kiddos start to run. At this point my blood starts to boil.
In an attempt to love my children well, I have launched a new “plan of attack” when these sillies start. Everyone is told to get their shoes on and meet at the sidewalk. One day I even told Honey to head out! Ready, Set, . . .
GO!
Usually they are told to do two laps around the house but occasionally I’ll call for three. It’s been a great form of release for the kids’ energy and is usually just enough to remind them that they love to play outside OR to calm them down for a game inside. Spring can’t get here soon enough!
Such a good idea!! Helps them and helps you :).
Becky…I used to do the same thing! Especially my oldest was prone to times of extremely high energy…whereupon I would either send him our for laps around the yard (we live on over an acre :>)) or put him to work doing some kind of manual labor housework! :>)
What an awesome idea!!!! Fresh air, movement (fast or slow) is regulating to the nervous system!!! You are an OT!!!!!
