Home stretch

So, I am scheduled to have this baby in 9 days – 9 days for Pete’s sake. How hard can it be to make it 9 days?

So, today I went to the doctor for my weekly 2 hour+ visit. I had to lay on my back and side for ages while they tried to find the baby’s heartbeat for the non-stress test. It turned out that if I bent one knee, stretched the other leg out, put one hand behind my head (and turned myself about) you could just hear KB’s heartbeat (Kickin Baby). Talk about pain!!! So, just as the room started to spin and go out of focus, the nurse came back into the room to check on me.

Next was the world’s quickest ultrasound and then the appointment with my actual doctor. Here I was told that my blood pressure was high. My blood pressure is never high. Still, it was today and that meant taking it again – just to make sure it wasn’t the shock of gaining two pounds in the past week that made it go high. It wasn’t the poundage, my pressure was actually high. So, my doctor made a call – he wanted me to go over to labor and delivery to the Women’s Eval. Unit and they were going to do blood work and watch my blood pressure for a bit and see if the baby needed to come today due to preeclampsia! WHAT!!!!

So, I spent three hours in a hospital gown in a hospital bed watching E! True Hollywood Story while my bloodwork was run and blood pressure kept coming back super great. Everything came back fine, save some protein where it shouldn’t be – I won’t even go into what I have to do for the next 24 hours because of that! Then there are follow up tests on Wednesday and more next Monday – – -I am scheduled to deliver in 9 DAYS!!!! Heaven forbid they be calm and quiet 9 days 🙂

You know, I come from good ole Cheely stock and we always have had a flare toward the dramatic. I guess our little KB is starting out giving props to her roots!

Pumpkin Patch Fun

Because of the demands on the rest of our month, we went to the Pumpkin Patch this past weekend – the earliest trip we have ever made. It was 90+ degrees and we were there when they opened at 9:00AM! So, it didn’t feel like fall but it was fun and festive just the same. To watch Bubba running through the pumpkins was a treat and Little really got into all the activities this year as well.
We had never been to this patch before and really enjoyed the variety. My friend Debbie was here visitng and went along. Little considers Mrs. Ertel her new best friend and alternated between holding her hand, giving her “friendly hugs” (where did she get that?), and reading her a truck book all weekend. This connection may have really been sealed on the “train” ride through the fields of “pumpakins”.

Do you see my 6’3″ husband folded into this “train” with his son? Seriously – my hero for sure. Bubba really was too little to do it alone and this pregant woman wasn’t making it into that barrel, so daddy did it and what a trooper. I love him I love him! Such a good daddy.

Not on Your Overalls, Bubba!

My friend Debbie is here visiting for the weekend.
Her husband flew her out as a birthday gift for her and I am thrilled.
This did mean that yesterday I drove to the airport with Little and Bubba in tow at one of the worst traffic times in St. Louis, but it was all good.
On the way home, Bubba had gotten sufficiently bored and had begun to bang his cup of water onto his seatbelt and legs to see the little drops that ekeed out of the spill proof lid. I corrected him and said, “No, sweetie, we drink it. We don’t want it to spill.” He took a sip and all seemed well.
Next thing I know, Little is saying, “Not on your overalls, Bubba.” as he is knocking it again.
I took the cup away.
And then took the next mile to smile and repeat in my mind that my little girl had just said, “Not on your overalls, Bubba” (only using his real name).

It is odd what gives you joy, eh? Little usually just repeats folks. That might be one of her longest self-created sentences ever!
