Five Pound Pedicure

A woman who works with my husband is a reader of the Blue Hutch.  I had no idea. She got tired of seeing my meter at 5 pounds and holding and sent me a gift certificate to a nearby spa!!! She also included a LOVELY note and I burst into tears.  Such a sweet and timely gift.  Thanks so much!!! (I made up the part about the meter – she was just being an angel.)

My sister and I went together the morning after Christmas and got manicures and pedicures. ALSO, my sister insisted I get my eyebrows done (she had hers done recently and loved the results).  I sat down to voluntarily have hair ripped from my flesh and the lady said, “You really need done, no?”  I told her that since I had never had this done and am pushing the cart toward 40 that, yeah, I probably did really need done! Loved it.
Coming home with pretty toes led to this. . .

which led to this. . .

which led to Honey yelling, “WHAT THE HECK is pink polish doing on my son’s toes???”
Good fun.
Thanks again, Jean.

Last Night – At Wal-Mart

Two nights after Christmas and all through the store,

the aisles they were silent – except maybe four.

I was working the cig aisle, wearing navy blue
and selling so many storage bins I didn’t know what to do.
When out came the gift cards to buy cigarettes with –
Unsuspecting relatives giving death as a gift.
Seven o’clock could not come too soon at all
and I dashed away to my car as the rain it did fall.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Pride, You Haunt Me

Tonight was the first night I was truly embarrassed about working at Wal-Mart. I have battled feeling like I need to explain myself every time I tell someone and they give me the “I am so sorry. Is there some other way?” look. But tonight I fought shame. I HATE THAT!

I looked up and standing in my line was the kids’ pediatrician, Dr. Dave. He did NOTHING that would cause me to be embarrassed (Marcie, he was wearing a very plain pinstriped oxford), it was all my pride.

SHOOT!

(He did ask if my kids were well – thought that was funny. Then he went into a story about his five year old and how his mom bought the same Lego set that “Santa” had already bought and he was frantically trying to figure out how to smooth this over before Thursday. The funniest thing was when he said, “I can’t wait until that kid doesn’t believe anymore.” Hmmm.)
