My Super Why
It’s cruel, I know, but I wanted a picture of him in his cape and so I pointed to the window and said, “Look, Bubba! Did you see??”

I took KB to the doctor last weekend (2 ear infections in three weeks) and came home to find everyone working diligently. The family that computes together stays together?

Our little rascal has mastered climbing out of the crib “mysef” and this is how Honey found her Sunday morning:

After three+ years I finally colored and cut out the ornaments for our Jesse Tree. I am so excited to use it in TWELVE MONTHS!

Since I haven’t done anything crafty since before Christmas. . .

And this is what my Honey brought home on my hard Friday last week. What a sweetie!

Lately with Aunt Linda

Sweet Linda has been at it again and loving my children in such a sweet way. In the context of a conversation, she asked me one day if I believed that she spent time with Little because she wanted to, not because she felt like she should or it was doing me a service. I replied that I believed she started spending time with Little to show love for me; now she spends time with Little because she loves her. In my mind, this makes it all the sweeter. I love Aunt Linda!

In December she took both (yep, BOTH) Little and Bubba out for lunch and shopping at Walmart for Angel Tree gifts. I had explained to the kids that Aunt Linda needed to buy gifts for a 5 year old boy and 5 year old girl who weren’t going to get presents this Christmas, and she asked if Little and Bubba could go along to help her know what the children might like. We brainstormed ideas – which consisted of my special children repeating that the boy would like “cars” (“Anything else, Bubba?” Reply, “Cars”) and “she will want a computer. The girl would like a computer.” (“Maybe a doll?” Reply, “Certainly. And she might want a new computer.”)

Linda took the kids to McDonalds for lunch and an hour in the Playland and then on to Walmart where Bubba put EVERY car he liked into the buggy. To hear Linda tell the story is classic. She shrugged her shoulders and let him do it. Then she explained that they could only choose TWO. They went and laid everything out on the floor in the aisle and he walked up and down and chose two cars for the mystery five year old. He then put the rest of the cars back on the shelf. (Insert deep sigh of approval and head shake just because that might never really happen so easily again.) After a “no” to a new computer and encouragement from Aunt Linda to choose a doll and an outfit (for the doll), the group came back to our house to wrap the gifts together.

That Sunday Aunt Linda met the kids in the hallway and they went to put the presents under the Angel Tree. SO FUN.

Aunt Linda rang the new year in with an afternoon at the Symphony. . . with Little.
There was a screen with Disney movie clips running while the Symphony provided the soundtrack. Linda says that Little sat still until the last 15 min. At that point she let it be known that she was ready to go home now. Linda’s words to me were, “We had sat through all that and I was NOT leaving right before Lion King.” Cracks me up. They stayed and it was all wonderful.

We are just so thankful for Aunt Linda.

Thank you, Linda!

Intriguing

I have found myself to be fascinating.

What a weird thing to say, eh? Well, I have realized over the last couple of days that I have a hard time writing about the real tough stuff. Poop in the middle of a bedroom is tough in it’s own right, but heart ache is on a different plane of tough. My pride doesn’t mind someone else knowing that I “bravely” scooped the poop of multiple children; makes me look heroic in some sick and twisted way. My pride hates the thought that others will pity me.

Wow. So there is my sin laid bare before the world. Who does that?

Things with Bubba have been escalating. Constant variation in routine since November has really taken it’s toll on our boy. There has been no time for recovery before his little mind has been bombarded with something else that differs from the norm and his anxiety level is maxing out. It is showing itself in crazy behavior. Crazy behavior = mood swings of teenage girl proportions and physical aggression. I have been on the phone with his teacher regularly and am so thankful for her. She loves my son. She “gets” my son. She has the training to help my son. What a blessing.

So, in a twist of irony, we have made a few changes which we hope will help with the anxiety caused by change. Bubs started going to school in the afternoon this week. The class is smaller but the teachers and therapists are the same. It’s only been two days but the reports have been good. It will get harder before it gets better, but I am convinced it is going to be the best decision.

Watching him struggle to adjust is just heart breaking. After consulting with his “team” at school, we have made an appointment with a doctor to discuss medicinal options. This really makes me nervous but the hope of having a calmer and more adaptable son is motivating. Don’t worry, I am not under the illusion that medicine will “fix” him or heal him – – just help him.

You can pray with us to that end.
Now, that wasn’t so bad.
