Bird for Birdhouse

Coralie left a comment on my previous post and linked up to a precious crocheted birdie for KB’s birdhouse. Well, I don’t “work” with yarn, but it made wonder if I could find something on Etsy!

Next, I checked my Google reader and was glancing through posts. The most recent post on Handmade by Jill was about an owl BUT she referenced a bird mobile she had made for her son and linked to it. In THAT post there was a link to the original mobile and a PATTERN for the birds!!! Looks so simple I could squeal!!!

I’ll let you know when it’s done and I might even let you see (I’ll wait to see how it turns out). Then, we’ll name the birdie Cora, since Coralie inspired me to action.

Birdhouse Anyone?

On a trip to Hobby Lobby several weeks ago, KB got it into her head that we were there to buy a birdhouse. To this day I don’t know where the idea came from. Still, I listened to her talk about the birdhouse as we walked through the store and then, wouldn’t you know it, we passed an aisle that had rows of unfinished birdhouses!

KB screamed with excitement. I scanned the rows and found that at the bottom there were little tiny houses for only $2. A bird starter home, if you will. I asked KB what color we were going to paint the house and she, of course, said, “Pink!”.

So, we came home and she painted that sucker pink. It is sitting atop her dresser and looking adorable in her pink room. There’s just no bird in this neighborhood that’s going to live in it!

Vintage = Me

We have been cleaning out and getting rid of all kinds of things. You can tell Honey has felt overwhelmed in life because the need for order has overcome his sentimental nature!

One item we had to make a decision about was my childhood dollhouse. My parents? mom? parents? and I built the dollhouse when I was little (2nd, 3rd, 4th grade??). We put linoleum in the kitchen, mom made curtains for the windows, it was great. It has been sitting at mom’s for YEARS and the elements have weakened it’s structure. Bubba barely touched it and a set of stairs fell off. And then there is the fact that it is 30ish years old (FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE). It’s an antique.

I came across the box of furniture and decided to go through it. Just as I did, children appeared from the four corners of our house and they set in to check out every piece. They played for an hour. Seriously. It was SO FUN to watch.

In the end, we sold it on Craigslist. A lady who restores dollhouses as a hobby bought it all. Sadly, that little house wasn’t made for my children and the amount of work it needed was beyond the reaches of my arms. It’s a bit sad. I do hope her grandchildren love it.

I kept the picture that was hanging in the living room. It was a wooden frame with a photo of me pasted inside. A sweet memento.

(I think KB snuck off with a basket of eggs and a scooter. Little thief.)
