Back To School

First Day Night

That’s right, readers, HONEY has gone back to school (and he was subjected to the “day one photo” just like everyone else).

Can’t even tell you how quickly this came about. . . or how long it’s taken to happen.  Honey has wanted to work on his PhD since before finishing seminary, but it just hasn’t been possible (what with the births, surgeries, MRIs, therapy, etc.).  We had a conversation in JULY about what he wanted to do in the future – how he saw God using his gifts and talents – and the next day I got a phone call telling me that he had sent in his application, printed reference forms, started requests for transcripts. . . WOW.

One month.  That’s all it took to go from “I’ll need more schooling” to “I am getting more schooling”.  Unbelievable . . . except this is the same guy who took three years to decide he was interested in me and then one month to propose.

The program? Not a PhD, but an MA in Leadership & Organizational Development.  I read the description and it is as if they interviewed Honey and wrote a program that sums up his very self.  It’s at a local university and is geared toward helping leaders understand the various systems and dynamics at play in an organization. To quote Honey, “It’s kind of like how when you get married you tend to do things that your parents did but you don’t realize it–some of that’s good and some is bad. The same thing happens in organizations and can hinder their effectiveness.”

The coursework will take 2 years to do (partly online and partly in class) and then there’s an “action research project” to do at his job.  The seminary is getting the tab and I’ll be home scrapbooking while my man braves downtown for the sake of education. . . cue music. . . and a better future for our family and seminary students alike.

I am so happy for him.  Wish you could have heard the phone call I received at 8:00 pm as he drove home from his first class; that was one happy man.

My Dream House

Let me start by saying this: if I lived in Gaithersburg, MD it would be difficult for me to not attend  Covenant Life Church.  I mean, I’ve been involved in the PCA denomination since I was two (that’s when it started) but I would be VERY interested in attending Covenant Life Church.  Not so much because the senior pastor is Joshua Harris (yes, of  I Kissed Dating Goodbye fame), but because I would want to spend time with Carolyn Mahaney.  I think she would see a LOT of me.

Since I don’t live in Maryland, I settle for reading “Girl Talk”, a blog written by Mrs. Mahaney and her daughters/daughters-in-law.  After a conversation with my landlord today about the birthday party we are having for Bubba on Saturday and the possible conflict with the lawn boy. . . today’s post was extra special.  You can go here to read the entire entry, but here’s the part I loved.

“Do you (like me) find yourself tempted to be discontent with your home?

If so, then this counsel author Randy Alcorn once gave a discontent couple is for you (and me) today:

“When I was a pastor, a couple came to my office and told me they wanted to be able to give more money to the church and to missions. “But we’ve always had this dream for a beautiful home in the country,” they added, “and we can’t seem to shake it. Is that wrong?”

No it isn’t. In fact, the dream of a perfect home is from God. It’s just that such a dream cannot and will not be fulfilled in this life. Our dream house is coming; we don’t have to build it here. In fact, we can’t. (In Light of Eternity, pp. 155-156.)

We may never have that perfect home we desire here on earth. But “our dream house is coming!” It’s in heaven, waiting there for us, as Jesus promised: “In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?” (John 14:2)

Dear Lord, may my mind and affections be set, not on the things of this earth, but on my eternal home in heaven where I will one day be with you. This is my ultimate dream house—and not just a dream, it is a certain hope! Thank you for the work of your Son on the cross, which brought me into your family, and, one day, will bring me into your home forever! “

Can’t wait to have coffee with Mrs. Mahaney AGAIN!!!

What would I give. . .

. . . to live near an IKEA?????
Sigh.

Christian, from modobject at home, added new links to her sidebar and I spent a few moments with this today. Sigh.

Click through to check out the newly decorated room, but read Christians’s post from today too.  There is a quote that is WONDERFUL.  This girl who used to do “dance routines” on the deck with my little sister is now SUCH a source of encouragement to my heart.

And THAT’s how the “blog world” brings glory to our Father!
Happy Wednesday!
