2011 In Review

My friend Coralie is an amazing writer who waxes eloquent once a day over at  Life More Abundantly.  On Tuesday she joined the wave of people in the blogosphere who were recapping their 2011.  Her approach was a bit different in that she didn’t link to her eleven favorite posts, but instead typed out the first sentence of the first post of each month.

It’s not surprising that the review post reads like scoops of poetry sprinkled with humor – that’s how Coralie writes.  (It is definitely worth your time to go here and read the review.)  It was so great that I was inspired.

I asked her if I could copy her idea and was given permission.  With the freedom to proceed I went into The Blue Hutch archives and found the first post of each month.  After compiling the first sentence from each of the twelve posts I’ve drawn these conclusions:

  • My writing is short on poetry.
  • Speaking of short – my sentence structure is extremely simplistic; simple sentence overkill.
  • This Fall was obviously busy because I was so very behind on the blog.  I wrote about KB’s October birthday in DECEMBER!!!  Good grief.
  • My blog is just what I intended it to be – a record of our family’s comings and goings.  I have NO IDEA why you are reading this.  This is stuff only grandma’s can love, right? Seriously. . .

Decide for yourself. . .
Here’s the review of The Blue Hutch 2011.  Read it for yourself and make your own observations. . . leave them in the comments if you would like.  Sarcasm is accepted; nice words are preferred.

January 1, 2011 – “Thinking through resolutions for this new year?”

February 1, 2011 – “Back in August I bought extra school supplies – remember when school supplies were a nickel each?”

March 1, 2011 – “Well, I’m home. We had a wonderful time in Atlanta but barely slept at all (and I am just too old for that).”

April 1, 2011 – “To kick off spring break, we went to the circus.”

May 3, 2011 – “Our first two kids have never been into boxes.”

June 1, 2011 – “The Elementary School really closes out the year with a bang.”

July 4, 2011 – “Several of you have asked about my trip last weekend and it’s so nice of you to care.”

August 2, 2011 – “I did something I have never done before. . . I got up EARLY on Sunday and went to get the things we need so that the stores would have them in stock.”

September 1, 2011 – “Okay, I just watched the movie “Remember Me”.

October 13, 2011 – “It has been 14 days since I last posted. FOURTEEN DAYS! I think that is a record.”

November 3, 2011 – “Apparently my friend Coralie pinned this 13 weeks ago and I just saw it tonight.”

December 1, 2011 – “For an entire year my youngest child talked about her next birthday and how she wanted a Dora party.”

I feel like I have let the proverbial cat out of the bag – we’ll see if my readership drops suddenly.  If you decide to come back, I have fun stories from Christmas!

I remembered most of the posts, but some of the opening lines intrigued me and I might just find myself going back to see what it was all about. I LOVE reading about your life! Keep it coming :).

Thank you for your kind words. I loved your recap. I found myself smiling in memory at the times and circumstances they brought to mind. It’s fun, right? This has become one of my favorite posts to write of the year.
