I Did Too Much Today

Today looked nothing like I planned and puts a real spin on the way I have always interpreted Proverb 16:9, “The mind of man plans his way but The Lord directs his steps.”

I got the kids off to school and came home to do a little cooking for the week. I did some laundry, worked on my to-do list for the week and then headed upstairs to go through a huge stack of off season clothes that needed to finally be separated and stored. I heard the door open and knew KB had arrived home from school. She and I chatted as I walked down the stairs to meet her. Silly me wasn’t paying close enough attention and thought I was at the bottom step. . . I wasn’t. I missed the step, turned my ankle and stepped down onto it. I heard a snap and screamed to KB as I fell, “GO GET MS. REGAN!! GO STOP REGAN!!!”

Regan hadn’t pulled out from dropping KB off but was talking to her husband in Afghanistan. I alternated between watching her chat on the phone and watching my ankle swell up to the size of a grapefruit. Once she got inside she gasped and then set to work. . . frozen peas for my ankle, the iPad to get a phone number, my cell phone so I could call Honey. KB went and got her blanket for me to hold. Within 15 minutes we were in the car headed to a newly opened Urgent Care that has an xray machine on site. . . much better than an emergency room filled with people fighting ebola.

There was a wheelchair waiting for me at the curb and they wheeled me straight in to have xrays – I didn’t even have to get out of the wheelchair for the pictures. Turns out it is broken and I am in a boot.

I don’t know how long I will have to wear it and all those fun and helpful details. I am waiting to hear when my appointment is with the orthopedic surgeon and all that will be more clear. For now I am laid out on the couch and letting Honey baby me a bit. (that’s what we call a silver lining)

Prayers are welcome. Sympathy is accepted. Grace is necessary.
