Kids Say the Darndest Things

We have lived in this house just shy of a year – we’re talking 11 months – and yesterday one of my bigger fears was recognized. Yesterday Little fell down the stairs.

The stairs here are so steep and no one is allowed to go up or down without mommy and daddy. Little has gotten so much better at stairs and with her growing confidence has come the proverbial “pushing of the envelope”. Yesterday we were all headed upstairs for something. I had KB in my arms and Bubba was doing a lap around the kitchen table before joining me at the stairs. Little decided not to wait on us and when I approached the bottom of the stairs it was just in time to see her rolling – not falling as much as rolling – down the stairs.

It all happened so fast but I swooped KB onto the carpeted den floor as I stuck my leg out to stop Little and then swooped her into my arms (alot of swooping – sorry). I was panicked but tried to stay calm – she was screaming. As I hugged her and tried to look her over, my heart racing she began to quiet and just whimper a bit. I felt three bumps on her head so I was checking pupils, etc. Then Little said, “I hurt my finger.”

OH MY WORD!!! Little has never told us anything hurts – – she never really feels pain. (How do I know? She bit through her tongue and didn’t care!) So, yipee #1 she felt pain. Yipee #2 the finger is fine. She started fidgeting and I said, “Little, let me check you over.” Her reply? “Mom (not mommy, but mom) I think I am going to be okay now.”

Great.

Thank you, Jesus, for protecting our Little. And thank you that she is going to be okay now. And thanks for letting her tell me.

Mashed Cauliflower

Okay, we have never had this before but it was soooo good. Honey was very verbal about how good it was. Can’t wait to do it again.

Mom, you should try this for sure!

Menu Planning Monday

Several of my friends from Birmingham often mentioned Menu Plan Monday on their blog and I wondered what the deal was. They are all in the same Sunday School class at church and I thought maybe this was some frugality pact they had made to hold each other accountable.

It turns out that I’m An Organizing Junkie hosts this every week and TONS of women plan their menus and put links on her site so you can see what their family is eating. In some ways this is funny – I can know what 265+ women are cooking this week – but in another way it is GREAT! While Honey was out of town this weekend, I got lost looking at menu plans and reading recipes, learning about people’s families and even getting a couple creative crafting ideas and laundry tips.

With my use of The Grocery Game ,I have fallen slack on menu planning and my family and finances have suffered for it. What’s the point of saving money with the grocery game if I am not going to plan and use what we get. I think this is what these women refer to as “eating from the pantry”.

So, I planned for this week. I LOVE planning. I only had five items to buy at the store this week to make all these meals happen – that is so GREAT! Here goes my first Menu Plan Monday entry:

Monday: Popcorn Shrimp, Cauliflower “Mashed ” Potatoes, and steamed green beans

Tuesday: Brisket (brought to us by a lady at the church)

Wednesday: Cream Cheese Chicken (crockpot meal!)

Thursday: Tacos

Friday: Pizza Casserole

Sunday: (L) Pumpkin Pancakes (D) small group potluck at church
