The CSI Challenge

You guys know of my love for other people’s trash and I realized recently that I never showed you this finished project. I also noticed the date on the “before” photo and realized it took right at a year for the piece to get done!

So, here it was . . . right out of the van. So sad, scraped up, gouged, and ugly:

Here it is in KB’s big girl room:

New molding around the edges and top, new pulls, no doors, new color, and eyelet covered inserts in the back of the shelves to mix it up a bit. I LOVE IT!

This has worked out perfectly because a site I have grown to love
Visit thecsiproject.com
is focusing on Yard Sale Makeovers this week and so I am linking up with this bit of handy work. Go over and check out what other women around the country are doing. It is inspiring (and will end up in your reader!!).

Our Life. . .

It’s Wednesday. It’s 6:19AM. It’s hot.

We have no air conditioner. It went out yesterday. It went out while I was with the three kids at Little’s OT appointment. The Landlord was charming and empathetic when Honey spoke to him about the predicament. I think the Landlord’s empathetic responses included, “If you guys wouldn’t try to keep the house so cold. . .” and “Your thermostat should never be below 79 and your fan should run constantly” and “Hope you guys have some fans.” Nice guy.

The TV met it’s match yesterday. Sad commentary on a television when it’s match is a two year old, 30 pound, girl. KB was looking for her something or other and the next thing I heard was a crash that sent me running. The monster TV (from 199?) was laying face down on the carpet and KB was diving into an explanation that included everything but, “I am so sorry, mommy.” Honey had just left so I called him and asked if it was okay for the beast to lay like this all day – he turned around and came home. In the end it didn’t matter. The fall was too much for the old box and at 11:00AM when we turned it on for the first time. . . Barney was blue.

On a happier note, we did go out on a date last night. My kind of date – frugal. We had a restaurant.com coupon for Mexican food at a place we’d never been. They had the best refried beans I have EVER tasted: vegetarian. aren’t all beans vegetarian? They make their own salsa each morning and it was TASTY. So, 10$ off 20$ at Salinas and then a $10 Groupon at Anna Marie’s – an ice cream shoppe that was heavenly. (Our bill – $9.56. Booya!) Then a trip to Walmart for an extra fan. Good times.

Today is a new day. Air conditioner guy is coming at 11:00AM and after a sweet conversation with the Landlord (can’t wait) we might have air in time for the kids return from Bible School. The little 19″ TV we had in seminary is hooked up in the den. Barney will be purple again today. Small but purple.

KB at the Magic House

While the older two were at VBS last month, I took KB to the Magic House for the first time. I really wanted to take her alone so she could take her time and pretend as long as she wanted and I could play with her. It was such a treat. Super fun.

This dollhouse. . . I have walked by it every time we have visited the Magic House. I am not sure I really ever registered it was there. KB spent our first 20 minutes here. We sat there on the floor and arranged every room, moved the family through what I can only imagine was a typical day in dollhousedom, and I listened to my little girl talk to each doll with such drama. Super Fun.

The water room was the next favorite. It took her a minute to get her bearings but then she was all in to pouring, mixing, moving and shaking. I was surprised at how timid she was with the other children. She was very observant of others. Super fun.

And then there was a new exhibit – a baby nursery, funded by Children’s Hospital. They had babies that, I promise you, looked just like newborns and were about the same weight as well. We clocked in and KB got all dressed. She received a clipboard with a list of things her baby needed to have done during her visit. Super Cute. Super fun.

Right after this picture my camera powered down due to my battery being “exhausted”. (Lazy battery) So I have no pictures of April and Chloe who joined us for the second half of our adventure. No pictures of KB selling ice cream from the ice cream cart – her other favorite item in the House. No pictures of her “cooking” pizza, “shopping” for tomatoes and yogurt (?), and “fishing” with a cane pole. Super Sad.

Guess we’ll have to go back. I can’t wait. NOW I know why people have memberships!
